Local teen sewing celebrity opens Uckfield’s largest creative arts fair
The first Bridge Arts in Uckfield Art Fair celebrated its opening exhibition on Friday, July 15th in the Uckfield Civic Centre with bouquets for a few of few of the committee members plus Guest of Honour Jade Earley, the Uckfield-based semi-finalist in the BBC’s The Great British Sewing Bee. Their next event will be part of the nation-wide The Big Draw in October. Friday evening also saw the visit from Wealden MP Nus Ghani who had long chats with many of the artists and then went over to meet and talk to Jade.
Nearly 40 artists and crafts makers, and 500 visitors took part in the two-day Arts Fair as part of the Uckfield Festival The two-day Art Fair, with a wide range of beautiful and affordable works of art. you were able to browse and purchase an individual piece for yourself. Over the two days there were also a series of demonstrations and workshops which was held in Uckfield’s Civic Centre, ran from Friday July 15th, 3-8pm and Saturday July 16th, 10am-4pm.
Bridge Arts is the new name of the group previously known as Uckfield Art Trail. It has built a strong reputation over the past ten years, for bringing exciting and creative arts to Uckfield.
Entrance to the Art Fair was free however donations in support of this non-profit group were very welcome. Bridge Arts could not do this without the essential support from local business sponsors, led by SpecSavers, Uckfield Framing, Sew ‘n’ Sew Haberdashery and Michael E. Connor Roofing.
